This is Our Story

Authentic Syrian flavors, crafted for every occasion.

Aleppo – Our Beginning

We were born and raised in Aleppo, a city that has stood for thousands of years. For centuries, it was Syria’s largest city and one of the most vibrant in the Levant. Aleppo was a crossroads of cultures and civilizations, a place where traders, travelers, and families gathered.

Before the war began in 2011, Aleppo was alive with beauty: ancient citadels that told the stories of empires, winding alleyways filled with the scent of spices and fresh bread, lively souks echoing with voices, and nights that glowed with lights, laughter, and music.

Growing up in this environment, we thought life would always continue this way. Aleppo was not just our city—it was the foundation of our memories, our traditions, and our sense of belonging.

2012 – The Day Everything Changed

But in 2012, our lives were turned upside down. Our building was bombed in the midst of the war. That single moment marked the end of the life we knew.

The place where we laughed, celebrated, and dreamed was suddenly gone. More than just a building, it was a symbol of safety and family, and losing it meant facing the reality that we could no longer remain in Aleppo.

With broken hearts, we said goodbye to our families and everything familiar. We carried only what we could, along with the memories of a home we were uncertain we’d ever see again.

2012–2016 – Istanbul: Between Worlds

Our journey took us to Istanbul, a city that felt both familiar and foreign. For four years, Istanbul was where we tried to rebuild our lives. It gave us moments of joy and hope, especially with the birth of our daughter, Salli.

But even as we welcomed new life, we lived with the weight of uncertainty. Turkey never felt like a permanent home. We were not granted the right to stay indefinitely, and every day carried the unspoken knowledge that we would eventually need to move again.

These years taught us resilience.

They reminded us of the importance of holding onto each other, cherishing small joys, and keeping hope alive even when the future felt unclear.

In 2016, through Canada’s private refugee sponsorship program, our journey led us across the ocean to Toronto.

From the very beginning, Canada embraced us. We felt an overwhelming sense of warmth and kindness, not just from institutions but from ordinary people who welcomed us with open arms. For the first time in years, we felt the possibility of safety, stability, and community.

Toronto gave us a new beginning. It was not just a place to live—it was a place where we could finally imagine a future.

2016 – A New Home in Toronto

2016–Today – Building a Family, Building a Future

Since arriving, life has continued to blossom. Our family has grown—we are now parents to three wonderful children: two daughters and a son.

One memory captures the spirit of our journey: just two days after our second daughter was born, we had a large catering order scheduled. The date had been set long before her birth.

Despite being so soon after delivery, my wife insisted on preparing the food. With incredible strength and determination, she returned to the kitchen, pouring love into every dish.

The order was a success, and it became a story we tell with pride—a reminder of the resilience, passion, and devotion that fuels everything we do.

Super Syrian Food – Sharing Aleppo With Toronto

From these beginnings, Super Syrian Food was born.

At first, it was simply a way to share the flavors of home with our new community. But quickly, it became something larger—a bridge between past and present, between Syria and Canada.

The meals we cook are the same ones our mothers and grandmothers made for us. They carry the aroma of cinnamon and sumac, the richness of roasted meats, the comfort of warm bread, and the joy of gatherings that last late into the night.

To us, food is more than nourishment. It is memory, love, friendship, and culture. Each plate carries a piece of Aleppo, reminding us of where we came from while allowing us to share that beauty with others.

2017–2024 – Recognition and Milestones

Along the way, our journey and our food have touched others. We’ve been humbled to see our story featured in:

  • The Globe and Mail

  • The New York Times

  • Toronto Star

  • CBC Radio

  • And even in a short documentary with President’s Choice

These moments were more than publicity—they were affirmations that our story mattered, that our food resonated, and that people wanted to know not only what we cook but why we cook.

In 2024, another dream came true: I graduated from the University of Toronto, where I studied International Development. A dream that once seemed unreachable in the chaos of war and displacement became reality in our new home.
